Coronavirus Update

Unfortunately our plans to celebrate Palm Sunday, Holy Week and Easter in our sanctuary are “on hold”. But this is what it would have been like. We are looking at alternatives and will post updates as we are able.

Easter at Mt. Zion

We will worship online on Easter Sunday, April 12, at 11:00 AM. View the livestream on our Mt. Zion Facebook page. However, we will hold an Easter celebration in our sanctuary when we are able to return to worshiping together in person as the Body of Christ.

Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Celebrate Jesus’ resurrection and victory over death at Mt. Zion, on Easter Sunday, April 12, at 11:00 AM. Our service will include special music, Easter flowers, our beautiful Easter flower cross, and a joyful message of resurrection hope by Pastor Roger. We’ll welcome you with open arms!

But before we can have Easter, there’s Holy Week, beginning with Palm Sunday, then Maundy Thursday, and Good Friday.

Holy Week

Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, April 5. We’ll join the crowd waving palms for Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. But we also remember with Jesus that he was facing his betrayal by Judas Iscariot, false accusations and a trial before the Jewish authorities, and then on Good Friday, torture, crucifixion and death at the hands of the Romans. We are reminded that there is no Easter Resurrection without the cross.

Palm Sunday, April 5

Recording of this service is available online at our Mt. Zion Facebook page.

Worship at 11:00 AM with palms, celebrating Christ’s entry into Jerusalem. According to the Gospels, Jesus Christ rode on a donkey into Jerusalem, and the celebrating people there laid down their cloaks and small branches of trees in front of him, singing part of Psalm 118: 26: “God bless the one who comes in the name of the Lord! We praise you from here in the house of the Lord.” (CEV) Pastor Roger’s Palm Sunday message will celebrate the day, but also will help us prepare for the events to come during Holy Week.

Maundy Thursday, April 9

This service has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We’ll observe Maundy Thursday, remembering when Jesus washed the feet of his disciples and shared in the Last Supper. We will worship at Pleasant Grove UMC, with the churches of the SOULanco Mission Link, beginning at 7:00 PM. We will join together in Holy Communion, and Rev. Garfield Greene will bring the message.

Good Friday, April 10

Join us online at 7:00 PM on Good Friday.

Remember that the resurrection message of Easter has no meaning without the cross of Good Friday. We join with our friends from Pleasant Grove UMC, as we invite everyone to this solemn observance of Jesus’ crucifixion, death and burial. Service begins at 7:00 PM on Good Friday, April 10, at our Facebook page.
